Garrison Tunnels Tour in Bridetown

Looking for a fun tour in Bridetown, Barbados? Something intriguing and something very beautiful lies beneath the lands of George Washington House, Barbados ( Bush-Hill House ) one of the world’s newest UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Around the year 1820, when Lord Combermere was the Governor of Barbados, a network of approximately 10,000 feet of tunnels was constructed. Believed to be one of the finest engineering design feats in Barbados, part of the network of tunnels lies directly beneath the grounds of George Washington House (GWH) as well as underneath what is today the most intact and authentic 18th and 19th century British Military Garrison found anywhere in the world.

After the Garrison was decommissioned in1905, the existence of the tunnels seemed to fade into memory until their re-discovery in 2011. Since then, 2,000 feet of a 3,200-foot tunnel has been explored and found to be in good and sound condition. Seventy meters (70) of this underground network were opened up to the general public in 2014.

Come, join us, and learn how these mysterious tunnels were constructed and how their construction led to the saving of thousands of lives.
